Cougar Mulling CPA Program

Mike AndersonCougar Mountain Software, which is trying to revitalize its reseller program, is also actively mulling the creation of an accountants' program. It is something the Boise, Idaho-based vendor has never done, even though Cougar considers its application extremely suitable for accountants, according to Mike Anderson, chief marketing officer.

"We are going to put more emphasis on CPAs and bookkeepers," says Anderson, who took over the job four months ago. "One of the strengths of the software is a secure audit trail."

The company is investigating what kind of benefits it might offer via an accountants' program while it is seeking to rebuild its channel. It once had thousands of resellers, but now has about 70. It had set out to whittle down the channel to remove VARs that weren't productive, but now finds it cut too many and left areas of the country in which it has no coverage.
