Mobile Payments Products Debut

The mobile world is getting new entries in the area of payment processing with Sage North America introducing Sage Mobile Payments and Intuit demonstrating GoPayment for Honeycomb, which is designed for Google's Android 3.0. It seems clear that the mobile payment area is going to get a lot of attention from vendors this year.

Sage Mobile Payments is available with an optional card reader and has encryption from the card reader device to the application. PCI compliant, the Sage product encrypts data before it leaves a customers' cell phone so that no personal data is retained on phones or mobile devices. Plans call for integrating the application with Sage Exchange, a PCI-certified payments platform that can automatically update Sage applications, including accounting, ERP, fundraising, medical practice and time and billing systems.

The product has a nominal set-up fee and monthly fees starting at $10.95.

Intuit has been showing the Android product at conferences this month and plans to display it next week at the Mobile World Congress. With GoPayment for Honeycomb, users can take photos of frequently sold items and create a product list. Frequently sold items can be dragged and dropped from the list into a shopping cart and items can be added or deleted. The GoPayment app is free and offers various pricing plans including no monthly fees and a free Intuit Credit Card Reader for new users. Rates are available for those with higher volumes to process. Intuit says there are no set-up, cancellation or gateway fees.
