Block Controller Named CFO

Jeff BrownKANSAS CITY, Mo. - H&R Block, which has been suffering from a loss of top executives this year, has named controller Jeff Brown as chief financial officer. Brown has served interim CFO following the departure of Beth Shulman in the spring.

Russ Smyth, then CEO of the tax preparation firm, quit in July and earlier this year, chief counsel Brian Woram resigned. Smyth was quickly replaced by Alan Bennett, who was a board member and former interim CEO. Before joining Block, Brown was the corporate controller and vice president of finance (Americas) at Bacou-Dalloz, now Sperian Protection, and and also had key positions at KPMG.
